Saint Lary Soulan, the most beautiful ski resort in the French Pyrenees

We travel to the French Pyrenees to discover one of its most beautiful ski resorts: Saint Lary, in the Aure valley, very close to the Spanish border (they are linked by the Bielsa tunnel). It has the magical figure of 100 skiable kilometres, where you can enjoy a total of 58 slopes: 7 green, 26 blue, 14 red and 11 black, making it a perfect destination for families and groups with skiers of different levels. There is also a snowpark, Kidpark, sledging area... The ski resort of Saint Lary is divided into three sectors:
  • Saint Lary 1700 "Pla d'Adet". This is the most family-oriented sector and the historic part of the domain, where the ski lifts leave the village. Here you will find the ski schools, the snow garden to leave the little ones in the best hands (Club Piou Piou), games in the snow and luge slopes. There is also a playful slope (Kidpark) with covered conveyor belts. A slope recommended for beginners is the green l'Echarpe, which meanders and offers easy access through the built-up area.
  • Saint Lary 1900 "Espiaube". The sector where the most experienced skiers will have a great time, with a combination of blue and red pistes, as well as a more sporty part with red and black pistes in the woods in the northern part. Here you can glide down the famous Mirabelle piste, one of the longest in the Pyrenees at 3.6 kilometres long and with a 700-metre vertical drop; another must is the Terranère piste.
  • Saint Lary 2400 "Vallon du Portet". Are you one of those who are looking for new trends and to practice jumps and impossible tricks? This is the sector for you, as this is where the Saint Lary snowpark is located. Apart from that, it is an area with beautiful views, as it is over 2,000 metres above sea level. There is also a 3-kilometre Nordic ski slope.
As for accommodation in Saint Lary, the closest and most comfortable option for skiing is the village of Saint Lary itself. With authentic Pyrenean aesthetics and Aragonese style, it is next to the resort, at an altitude of 830 metres. From there you can go up to the slopes by car, cable car or chairlift (the use of which is included in the ski pass). There is also accommodation at altitude, hotels, flats, chalets and rural houses. Almost all of them in the built-up area are served by free shuttles that will take you to the ski slopes of Saint Lary.
What is après-ski in Saint Lary like? After skiing in Saint Lary, there is still a long day ahead of you. Among the many things to do is to explore the village of Saint Lary, which has its own identity and atmosphere. There are shopping streets with shops, bars, restaurants and even a play area for ice skating and a wide range of spas to pamper your body after a hard day's skiing. For dinner, two top restaurants are the ICC and La Pérgola, with local products and local wines. For those looking to party on the slopes, don't miss the Top Ski Bar.
