Ski Holidays in Piau Engaly

Skiing in Piau-Engaly means discovering a high-altitude ski resort in the Pyrenees. Without travelling too far, we will discover other corners of the mountain range, its French side, where in just a few kilometres we will change language, timetables and some customs.

The Piau Engaly ski resort is characterised by its northern orientation, which guarantees optimum snow conditions, with plenty of powder snow, and it is not very crowded compared to other more well-known resorts in the Pyrenees. It is ideal for those who don't like to queue at the ski lifts and want to ski in peace and quiet.

Let's see what we are interested in, the technical data. Pyrénées2vallées - Piau Engaly has 65 skiable kilometres with 41 slopes with the following levels of difficulty: 4 green, 18 blue, 12 red and 7 black. They are at altitudes between 1.400 and 2.528 metres above sea level, so there is an impressive vertical drop of almost 1.200 metres. There is also a snowpark and an interesting freeride area.

Piau Engaly has many attractions, here's what not to miss in the ski resort:

• Slopes for all levels. If you are just starting to ski, you should know that there is an area dedicated to beginners with wide green and blue slopes, as well as snow gardens for the little ones to learn at their own pace. A must for beginners are the blue runs of La Grande Bleue and La Combe du Piau; experts should not miss La Samba or La Perdreaux.
• Freeride and cross-country skiing. Piau-Engaly is known as a paradise for freeride and cross-country skiers. The Piau-Sobrarbe domain, between the French and Spanish Pyrenees, has 24 kilometres of pistes where you can enjoy four circuits for Nordic skiing. There are three freeride areas with fantastic powder snow for the most skilful skiers; they are safe, but beginners must be accompanied by a professional to help them with the recommended equipment, including shovel, probe and avalanche victim detector.
• Slalom stadium. Experienced skiers can test themselves on the Piau-Engaly slalom slope, which is 1.300 metres long and has a vertical drop of 360 metres. And for the more energetic, you can even take part in the Derby des Pyrénées, a timed race between the Pic de Piau and the snow front that takes place every year in March. Are you up for it?
• Beyond skiing: other activities. In addition to the slopes, Piau-Engaly offers many other activities, such as snowshoeing or dog-sledding in the surrounding area, hiking in the mountains, a fun day out at the Edenéo "aqualudic" centre with beautiful panoramic views of the Pyrenees, or trying the magical experience of diving under the ice.
